                                                             1980 CHEVERRA RESTORATION

Back in 1980 Herb Adams had a contract with
Goodyear Tire to run their high performance
street tires at the Daytona 24 hour race.

To satisfy this requirement Herb modified a production Camero using his Cheverra handling package. The idea was to keep it a licensed and street legal car that could run 180 MPH.

The car was featured on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine in June 1981. Now the remains have resurfaced and it is back in Herb's hands and will be restored to it's former glory.

                                                                          Some of the changes that transformed a Camaro into Cheverra:
                                                                     * Complete Roll Cage
                                                                     * Fender flares to allow for wider tires
                                                                     * Front spoiler and fascia to reduce lift at high speed
                                                                     * Custom Whale tail rear spoiler to reduce rear lift
                                                                     * A 500HP big block Chevy provided power required at low RPMs
                                                                     * An auto trans to handle 500 ft lbs of torque for 24 hours at Datona

The car qualified for the Daytona 500 race but a blown tire sent it into the wall during practice. Although there was no major chassis damage, the body had more than
could be repaired over night. The decision was made   to pull the car from the race.

Herb eventually sold the car to an enthusiast who enjoyed street racing with it. In the following years it passed through several owners who used and abused it till it ended up in pieces in an Alabama garage. When in  November of 2009 word came around that it was for sale we decided it was worth saving for posterity and sentimental reasons.So with the help of Matt and great support from N.P.D for parts, the fun begins.
Stay tuned for more pictures and progress reports!
